It started with a handwritten letter to a good friend with the mention of possibly getting together to do some bookbinding. She and I set a date for the crafty afternoon and to our delight, the party has grown from two to seven people. Then I started to panic. The last time I bound a book was ages ago so I took to task in one evening. I just went with memory and it didn't go all that badly. I took some photos to help document the steps. Here's hoping all goes well on the bookbinding day. If not and the pages come apart, or the stiches come udone, or the book falls apart - that's okay, because we'll have a good time just trying to make something.

It looks gorgeous and makes me want to try my hand at my own. How fun you know people to do these kinds of things with. :)
(PS: For some reason I can't comment with my wordpress openID...)
Can't wait until Sunday!
Ooooh! I've always wanted to learn this art. This looks awesome. I'd love to hear how it goes for you and friends.

thanks for showing this! I had NO idea what we were doing! now I have more of an idea!
Chuck: thank you! Up close the books could use a little bit more refining. I'm just happy it holds together! And yes, I am very lucky to have crafty friends who've introduced me to bookbinding and who are willing to spend an afternoon learning how to do it.
Jaime: ditto! What will be playing on the laptop this time?
alexandria: It took me a while to get around to want to learn and when I did, I got hooked. It's such a handy skill to have.
Celine: I'm glad the photos helped! I know what it's like to jump right into something like this not knowing what to expect.
