UPPERCASE magazine issue 25

When the open call came from UPPERCASE publication (a beautiful Canadian quarterly print magazine) for printmakers to submit some samples to be included in issue #25, I didn't hesitate to put my name in the hat!

Editor and designer of UPPERCASE, Janine Vangool, always maintains a level of stellar work and an eye for beauty in her magazine. I feel lucky to have gotten in on the list of Profiles in Printmaking and couldn't have been happier printing 50 or so paper bag samples and tucking in a greeting card into each one for subscribers.

Here's a throwback to the last time I contributed to the open call for letterpress artists in issue #8!

rock + moon cards

These latest cards were inspired by my little guy, who's now almost 26 months old. I think these thoughts of him when I see his sweet little face, or when he makes me laugh and every time he says, "Hi, Mommy!". The list of things he does and says that make my heart full is endless. He is my rock and he hangs the moon.

The rock and moon cards will be making their debut at the Love & Rummage show at The Workroom this Sunday. Come on out and get something handmade for your sweetie pie!

new to the shop: gothic in gold

We're knee deep into September and it's always a weird time for stationers. It's not close to the holidays but we're already thinking about it and brewing up festive designs. So, to give myself a break and some breathing room before Christmas arrives, I've created a new small line of cards for the interim!

These are the Gold in Gothic correspondence cards featuring my beloved gothic wood type and the newly acquired, News Gothic Condensed type. There were inked in gold and printed on the mini Showcard press. You'll also notice the new suave black and pink blush cardstock!

These darlings are only available for wholesale orders. If you'd like to place an order (15 cards minimum per style) please contact me at 'snapandtumbleletterpress@gmail.com'.

Little Book of Numbers

You guys, the Little Book of Numbers is done! I completed the book last week and am so pleased at how it turned out. It has 13 pages, printed mainly in black but red was used for the back and front covers. I've also included a bookplate with every edition! I personalized the one for Marcus by printing his initials on it. The book is held together by two handy metal rings (which can be opened should I ever want to include more pages). The numbers and words of numbers were all handset and the acquired images were individually printed. This means that one book was hand-fed through the press 79 times!

I introduced the book to Marcus (19.5 months) yesterday and he was quite interested. The timing was good because he is very much into books and has recently started counting. Or rather, repeating numbers when he hears or sees them. He only gets as far as two and skips to eight and nine, but it's still a marvellous thing for his parents to hear it :) The book is nice a small and fits comfortably in his little paws and he has no trouble separating or turning the pages. He even recognizes some of the images, like the birds and the rockets (or "planes" as he refers them to). It was great to see Marcus and the book in action together.

I've only made 10 of these books and they are currently being sold in the online shop. I've also reserved a couple to bring and sell at the Parkdale Flea this Sunday!

Wednesday, 27 June 2012

If you're a frequent reader here, you might've noticed a few changes to the look of the blog. It's not that different from what it was before but just a bit cleaner and leaner. It was high time for a wee makeover and I asked a favorite artist of mine to help me get it started. The handsome illustration that got a prime seat at the top of the sidebar was done by the wonderful Caitlyn Murphy. We met at the 2009 City of Craft show and I knew then that she was the gal that would have to create a drawing for me one day. Check out her work, it's tops!

I hope you like the new outfit to the blog. Up next will be a mobile version!

pop-up shop closed

Thank you to those who spread the word about the last pop-up item of the year for Snap + Tumble. And thank you to those who've grabbed up a gold pack! I took some much needed time away from the city last evening and sped to the cottage. I brought all of the contents of the gold packs and packaged each set individually in the morning by the lakeside. I addressed the mailers and headed to the town post office to make the deliveries. It's never called 'work' when it's something you love to do. So, thank you again, for allowing me to do what I love to do and to be able to share it with you.

pop-up shop: gold & black collection

Alright folks, here it is, the Gold & Black collection of letterpress printed goods! Have a peep at the details of what's included here. The shop opens today at 2pm EST and only 10 sets are available for purchase.

I've been wanting to use gold ink for quite some time now and slowly printed up a collection of cards and postcards for each set. Five of the sets (#1-5) come a correspondence card that reads, "LOVE" on the front. Four of the cards (#6-9) read "WISH" and the one set (#10) has the card which reads, "GLEE". I hold this collection near and dear because I printed some images that were used from the start of Snap + Tumble four years ago. And then of course the beloved starburst cut makes another appearance and the ever sweet and simple wood type returns. To complete the set, I printed a little something (a "hello!" and gold dots) on the envelopes.

This will be the last in the series of limited edition Snap + Tumble goods for the year. The commissioned projects, wholesale orders and letterpress workshops are well underway and will be keeping me busy till it's time to put up my feet. The baby has already started kicking but I'm convinced he's doing cart wheels because there's so much darn movement in there!

Woot! See you at the Snap + Tumble online pop-up shop at 2pm!
