I've wrapped up a few custom jobs this week and got to try printing on wood veneer. I was skeptical at first but was happily surprised that the wood didn't warp under the pressure of the press. I was also satisfied with the clean transfer of type, but that just might be because of the quality of the magnesium die. I'm going to try using my large wood type on these and hope to see the grain of the wood through the ink! Makes me shiver just thinking about it. There isn't a whole lot of an impression in the paper, but I'm not at all disappointed in that. I just love the change from paper to wood and experiments like these. So much so that these beauties just might end up as the new s + t calling cards and product tags.
Enjoy your weekend, everyone.

These are really beautiful and classy. What a neat thing to try out. Happy weekend, Tanya!
That looks really cool. Does the wood absorb the ink well? Do you have to worry about it smudging?
alexandria: thank you. I think the colour of the wood has alot to do with the classiness. I didn't want to print too much stuff on the card just so I could see most of the wood :)
Chantel I: thanks! I've heard that ink takes a long time to dry on wood but I give my prints at least 2 days to dry anyway. The ink was only covering a small area so it took no time, really. Also, no smudging.
Awesome Tanya!
That looks like a fun (and successful) experiment. And beautiful with the twine!
Very Nice!
love LOVE the veneer. I've always wanted to use these in some way. I used some for christmas tags last year, but your cards look beautiful!!
Oh Tanya, these are super pretty! I hope your experiments turn out!
stunning, love the combination of wood and ink!
This is my first visit to your blog and what an amazing first impression (no pun intended : P ) These are beautiful!
Kristen, InktoPaper and for design's sake {sandi}, Melinda Josie and jax: thank you!

mrYen: thanks for visiting - pun and all :)
such good ideas!!!
That's so funny. I was printing on wood veneer last week, too. My husband wants his business cards done on wood veneer so while I had something else on the press I did a couple of samples. I think it would be really interesting to see the difference between the magnesium plate and the photopolymer.
They look lovely. I especially like how some are horizontal and some are vertical but both are beautifully balanced.
amanda jane jones: thank you!
Micheline: my husband wants his business cards on wood veneer too! not sure how much of a difference there would be between mag and pp, if i do it and there is, i'll let you know.
Sharp! That's so cool.
