christina + john {simply beautiful}

Christina and John's hearts were set on a simple, elegant and modern design. But going for simplicity isn't always the easiest thing to do. With so many great typefaces, colours, and images, it can be a daunting task to pare things down. But pare things down I did.

For starters, Calibri is one of my favorite typefaces. It's one of those sans-serif fonts that look friendly because of the rounded stems and corners - a nice choice for a modern design when you don't want something that feels too severe. Using a couple of different sizes gives a strong visual heirarchy and also keeps things simple, neat, and uncluttered.

You also couldn't get much simpler than a black and white palette. To warm up the design our couple opted for the Pearl White Lettra paper as opposed to the equally popular crisp Flourescent White. Choosing one colour is, of course, the height of simplicity, and black and white is the pinnacle of contrast.

Simple doesn't necessarily mean undecorative. The inspiration for the leaf motif was Christina and John's wedding being in the fall. It was the clean repeating pattern of the shape of a leaf that won them over. The choice to have that motif blind debossed throughout the letterpress suite provided consistency - also a step in the direction of simplicity.
